In July 1949, HRH The Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh take her first Sovereign's Parade.

The 13th of July, 1949, was made memorable for the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and particularly for the departing Seniors, by the presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh, at the Sovereign's Parade.

A year earlier, her father, King George VI had visited and taken the first Parade since the formulation of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.  On the 14th July 1948, HRH had stated.

Now that the officer cadets for all branches of the Army are united in one establishment, I wish that this parage should in future be know as "The Sovereign's Parade"

The Sovereign's Company Competition in the Summer Term, 1949, was won for the second time in succession by Dettingen Company
